Texas is facing an estimated $15 million shortfall in the 2012-13 budget, and funding for women’s shelters is in serious danger of being cut by the State Legislature.

If women’s shelter funding is cut, thousands of abused women and their children will have nowhere to flee from abusive relationships, resulting in thousands more deaths and injuries - ultimately costing the State even more money for police, criminal justice and health care expenses.

Family violence is the leading cause of injury to women and children in America, according to the U.S. Department of Health's Center for Disease Control & Prevention.

Women’s shelters are absolutely essential for the protection and well-being of abused women and their children trying to escape from abusive relationships.

Please sign our petition now. Let’s all tell Gov. Rick Perry and Texas legislators: Don’t cut funding for women’s shelters!

Please don't cut funding for womens shelters from Texas' 2012-13 budget

Greetings,

Please don't cut funding for women's shelters from the 2012-13 Texas budget.

Family violence is the leading cause of injury to women and children in America, according to the U.S. Department of Health's Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).

Women’s shelters are absolutely essential for the protection and well-being of thousands of abused women and their children across Texas trying to escape from abusive relationships.

Texas may be facing a $15 million budget shortage, but if women’s shelter funding is cut, thousands more victims will have nowhere to flee from abusive relationships, resulting in thousands more injuries and deaths - ultimately costing the state more money for police, criminal justice and health care expenses.

Please maintain funding at current levels for women’s shelters.

Thank you very much.
