Sprint has announced that it "is waiving text-messaging fees for Sprint customers who send mobile donations to a number of short codes and organizations participating in the relief and recovery efforts in support of the tragedy in Haiti. Retroactive to Wednesday, Jan. 13."

More info here from Sprint.

Why This Is Important

Three of the four major mobile phone providers have decided to waive text messaging fees for subscribers who want to donate to Haitian earthquake victims via text messages to the Red Cross and other organizations providing aid to survivors of the devastating quake.

But Sprint won’t waive the fees. Sprint says to its customers that “standard text messaging charges will apply, but they can switch to an unlimited plan.”

Sprint is trying to get people to switch to more expensive texting plans instead of helping to make it as easy as possible for people to donate to earthquake relief.

Send a letter to Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and tell him to have a heart and waive texting fees for Haiti donations immediately.

Waive Text Fees for Haiti Donations!

Dear Dan,

All of your major competitors have decided to waive texting fees for people who want to donate to Haitian earthquake relief organizations via text.

Why won’t Sprint do the same?

Your representative suggested that instead your customers could switch to an unlimited texting plan. That is a seriously heartless response.

Please, do the right thing. Waive texting fees and retroactively credit those who have already generously donated via text message to the victims of the devastating quake in Haiti.
