On December 6, 2011, current presidential candidate and Governor of Texas, Rick Perry released a campaign ad in a sad attempt to revive his dying campaign. In the ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0PAJNntoRgA), Perry suggests that something is wrong in the United States because gay soldiers are allowed to openly serve their country:

"I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.

As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again. I'm Rick Perry and I approve this message."

As someone who is running for President of the United States, Perry should be ashamed for suggesting that LGBT members of our military are somehow unequal to their heterosexual counterparts. Perry's use of the ad to attack those who protect his right to free speech clearly shows his ignorance. The ad is a blatant attack against the LGBT community and offends those service-members past and present who are gay. Furthermore, Perry's use of religion to defend his anti-LGBT position offends not only the LGBT community, but Americans of all faiths and backgrounds.

As such, Governor Rick Perry should apologize for his outrageous ad and acknowledge the sacrifices made by our LGBT active-duty service members and veterans.

Apologize to our gay soldiers/veterans and the LGBT community

Greetings Governor Perry,

Recently you released a YouTube ad suggesting that President Obama was engaged in a war on religion. You base your argument off the fact that gays are allowed to openly serve in the military while our children cannot celebrate Christmas in school.

Your ad is a blatant and outrageous attack on the LGBT community and gay soldiers that have served this country past and present. Just as you wish our children could celebrate Christmas at school, our gay and lesbian soldiers wish they could celebrate Christmas at home with their families. However, they choose to put their lives in harm's way so that you do not have to. Their courage and sacrifice is what gives you the ability to treat them like second-class citizens and run for president of this great country.

Using religion to attack our gay and lesbian soldiers is not simply an attack on the LGBT community; the ad offends Americans of all faiths and backgrounds as well as the military members who put their lives at risk to give us our freedoms.

I call upon you to apologize for your attack on our gay soldiers and acknowledge the sacrifices they have made for this great nation.
