BP recently announced that its third-quarter profits more than doubled – earning nearly $5 billion during the last three months. Other big oil companies announced that they have also raked in obscene profits this year. Yet somehow, these oil giants continue to receive billions in taxpayer-funded giveaways each year.

When Representative Costa has been given the opportunity to cut Big Oil handouts, he repeatedly sides with the oil companies -- voting to allow them to continue receiving massive government handouts. 

Tell Rep. Costa today that there should be no more handouts for Big Oil and to support any effort to cut Big Oil’s taxpayer-funded subsidies.

Dear Representative Costa,

The big five oil companies -- BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Shell -- have made over $100 billion in profits so far in 2011. At the same time, these same corporate giants are also receiving billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies each year.

As Congress works to reduce federal spending, it is outrageous that Big Oil continues to benefit from special tax breaks while also raking in sky-high profits.

And yet, when you have been given the opportunity to cut Big Oil handouts, you have repeatedly sided with the oil companies -- voting to allow them to continue receiving massive government handouts.

As Congress completes the 2012 budget in the coming months, I strongly urge you to stand up to the oil industry by supporting any effort to cut Big Oil's taxpayer-funded subsidies.
