Glue traps are one of the cruelest forms of mouse and rat control that exists. Animals can suffer up to five days before finally dying, usually from suffocation, dehydration or starvation. Death can also occur from blood loss after a terrified animal attempts to free itself by chewing off its own limbs.

Glue traps work by trapping an animal -- any small animal -- helplessly in a sticky adhesive. As an animal struggles to free itself, it becomes more and more stuck.

Despite attacks from PETA, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation refuses to stop using glue traps even though there are more humane alternatives readily available.

Sign the petition to tell the Department you won't stand by while glue traps are used.

Please Stop Using Glue Traps to Kill Rodents

Greetings,

Please stop the use of glue traps to control the rodent population and consider a more humane alternative.

Glue traps cause needless stress, fear and suffering to its victims. Mice and rats are not the only animals to die in glue traps. Birds, reptiles, squirrels and other small animals are commonly caught. An animal can suffer for as long as five days in the trap before finally dying, most commonly from suffocation, starvation or dehydration. Animals have been known to chew off their own limbs in attempt to free themselves, often dying from blood loss in the process.

With many humane alternatives available, there is no reason to continue to use glue traps. The Centers for Disease Control states that it is a disease risk to use the traps, as animals often urinate and defecate due to fear.

The New York City Police Department and the Chicago Transit Authority have recently switched from glue traps to humane traps.

I urge you to follow in their footsteps and end suffering from glue traps.

Thank you.
