The New York City Council has eliminated all funding to sexual violence victim services and prevention. By doing so, the Council has turned its back on the needs of victims and on prevention programming that is essential for promoting the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers. The choice to eliminate all funds to sexual violence programming represents just .001% of the city's $63.1 billion budget.

We must educate our public officials about the critical importance of the victim services, outreach, education and prevention programming that these organizations provide, and demand that sexual violence funding be reinstated.

Help Restore Critical Sexual Violence Funds

Dear Speaker Quinn & Members of the City Council,

By eliminating all funding to the city’s Sexual Assault Initiative, the City Council has effectively turned its back on the issue of sexual violence. Without this funding, the efforts of the city's rape crisis programs and the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault to ensure sensitive, culturally competent treatment of victims and community-based programming for prevention will be severely curtailed.

The loss of funds will increase risk to victims of sexual violence and diminish the capacity of prevention programs that promote the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers. I urge you to work with the City Council to restore these critical funds to the city’s rape crisis programs and the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault.

Thank you.
