Mobile phone manufacturers still source some of the metals required for their phones to function from conflict areas like Congo (DRC). This helps fund the arms trade.
Voice Of America says: "What we know is that some of the metals that are being produced in eastern Congo are vital to the mobile phone market...For example, there is a metal wolframite, which is the ore for tungsten, and tungsten has specific use in mobile phones in that it is used for the vibrating function of mobile phones."
Please ask all the large mobile phone manufacturers to stop sourcing their metals from the world's conflict zones and to make sure that their supply chain is fully trackable.
Some of the mobile phone manufacturers have replied to requests for more information, but a large majority of them are silent (please see http://www.MuLondon.com/blog/mobiles for more information).
Please ask them to:
-Stop using metals sourced from conflict areas
-Put guarantees in place to make sure that sourcing of their supplies is not funding the arms trade
-Have a fully trackable supply chain
Thank you.
Please do not fund the arms trade
Greetings,
I know that you need wolframite to make your phones vibrate. I also know that this is often sourced from conflict areas where it helps fund the arms trade, like in Congo (DRC).
I urge you to:
-Stop using metals sourced from conflict areas
-Put guarantees in place to make sure that sourcing of your supplies is not funding the arms trade
-Have a fully trackable supply chain
Thank you
