Approximately 100 million sharks are killed each year for their meat and fins. At this rate, sharks are quickly going extinct. Shark meat is not only unsustainable, but it also contains high levels of toxins, such as mercury.
Henry's Farmers Market advertises in their mission statement that their goal is to 'enhance the lives of their customers...by offering high quality, value priced, fresh products that support a healthy lifestyle....'
We need to insist that Henry's upholds its mission and stop selling unsustainable products.
Please Stop Selling Unsustainable Shark Meat
Dear Henry's Farmers Market,
I urge you to stop selling shark at all of your stores immediately. Sharks are critically important to our oceans and are unable to rebound from modern fishing practices. Additionally, sharks are known to contain high levels of contaminants such as mercury, and reputable nationwide seafood consumption guides all indicate that sharks should be avoided altogether for these reasons.
As a customer, I want to feel good about the food choices I make and know that I am not contributing to the destruction of the oceans. I am counting on you to uphold your mission of “enhancing the lives of your customers…by offering high quality, value priced, fresh products that support a healthy lifestyle….”
Please remove shark from your menu immediately and uphold your mission.
