The National Parks Conservation Association is leading a strong initiative to get the EPA to enforce one of the most important of the Clean Air Act programs: the Regional Haze Rule. According to NPCA:

"National parks around the country suffer from hazy and unhealthy air. More than 30 years ago Congress told EPA to clean up antiquated coal-fired power plants and factories responsible for hazy air in America's largest national parks and wilderness areas. But EPA has missed one deadline after another, and to this day has failed to put in place haze cleanup plans for nearly every state. As a result, not only do our parks continue to suffer hazy skies, but our communities are breathing the same unhealthy air."

Here is what you can do. NPCA is sending delegates to Washington, DC on October 17 and you can add your voice to the effort. Tell EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to enforce the Regional Haze Rule, the Clean Air Act program designed to improve air quality in national parks, wilderness areas, and wildlife refuges.

Enforce Regional Haze Rule

Greetings,

As a national park advocate who expects outstanding air quality while visiting America's most treasured landscapes, I call on you to make sure EPA fully enforces the laws meant to reduce haze pollution in our national parks. Major polluters of the parks, such as antiquated coal-fired power plants, should have been cleaned up years ago. But EPA has dragged its feet and is now many years behind schedule. You must end the delays and immediately put in place adequate haze pollution clean-up plans for all 50 states.

National park advocates from across the country are visiting Washington, DC on October 17 because they are concerned about national park air quality. I would like to add my voice to theirs and let you know that clean air in the parks is important to me.

Thank you for considering my requests.
