The Latino population in the city of East Haven is being terrorized by the city's own police force. Latinos across the city now live in fear of the very people entrusted to keep the peace, and something must be done to protect them.

Reports of harassment, beatings, Tasering, and death threats in retaliation for complaints have become commonplace in East Haven, contributing to an untenable situation. A federal lawsuit has now been filed against the police department, and an investigation is now underway to determine what laws were broken.

It is time to act on these irregularities. A top-to-bottom review and restructure of East Haven's police department is desperately needed. Police officers must be properly trained in the use of force. Those who stray from the law and engage in racial profiling must be dealt with and punished.

Tell the East Haven police department not to wait for a court order: the system must change, and change now. Put and end to the civil rights violations now occurring in the name of law enforcement. Put an end to racial profiling and unfair harassment.
