Tell E! Entertainment Not to Renew Sexist New Show "Bridalplasty"

Tell E! Entertainment Not to Renew Sexist New Show "Bridalplasty"

The Issue

E! Entertainment has a new show in which brides-to-be compete against each other for plastic surgery procedures.

The show mocks women desperate to look good at their wedding. What's insidious about the show is that it reinforces the notion that women must look perfect at their wedding, at any cost. The show goes farther than perhaps any show has before in exploiting women's insecurities about getting married and looking perfect -- the two things society tells women will make them worthwhile.

Not only does the show promote harmful ideas about the extremes we should go to to attain an "ideal" physical appearance, plastic surgery promotes both physical and mental harm. The show is harmful to everyone, audience and participants.

Surely, there are better ways to make money that don't so explicitly mock, exploite, and degrade women.

Tell E! not to renew Bridalplasty for a second season. An apology for such blatant sexism would be nice, too.
