Right now Cumberland County, NC is considering a mandate that will implement a new breed ban that will include Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Pitbulls, Mastiffs (all bully breeds), Akitas and Huskies. These dogs will not be given a chance at life. Any dog that falls under the breed ban will be held the mandatory 72 hours and will then be put to sleep.
According to the Cumberland County mandate , “These dogs will be held for the mandatory 72 hrs and then will be killed, they will not be given a chance to be adopted.”
“If the dog is an owner turn-in, he will be killed the second he walks into the back.”

I live in Cumberland County and I know how quick the turn around time in their shelter is from being brought in to being put down if not quickly adopted. This however is the straw that has broke my back, many of these breeds are used as service animals to help people and to consider a German Shepard, for example, dangerous because of it's breed is wrong.
As many dog owners and other educated individuals know, there is no "bad breed" only bad owners. If the county is worried about dangerous animals, why not take the time to do a temperament test instead on condemning hundreds of dogs to die?
