Senator Jim Webb from Virginia has introduced an expanded version of the GI Bill, called the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Act, to increase education benefits for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. But opponents of this legislation argue that increasing benefits will lead more soldiers to leave the military for college.
 
Ask Congress and President Bush what right we have to force our fighting men and women to stay in the military by denying them opportunities in civilian life?
 
Many of these veterans are returning from multiple tours of duty where they have seen horrific combat. Often their health has suffered, their families have faced hardships, and their finances have been strained. They should not have to struggle to rebuild their lives.
 
It has been said that post-9/11 generation is the next Greatest Generation. We must honor their military service the same way we honored their grandparents: by financing their education and giving them an opportunity for a better future. Urge Congress and President Bush to support this legislation.
