In the wake of an eye-opening audit showing serious flaws in investigation and enforcement of animal cruelty at puppy mills, Senators Dick Durbin and David Vitter are introducing the PUPS (Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety) Act.

This bill strengthens the existing Animal Welfare Act and helps the US Department of Agriculture crack down on unscrupulous breeders who put profit ahead of animal protection.

Stand up for puppies - help us pass the PUPS Act

Greetings,

I hope that you're aware of an internal audit of the USDA, showing serious flaws in enforcement of "puppy mills," unscrupulous dog breeders who cruelly treat dogs in order to make a quick buck. The failures at USDA highlight the problems with enforcing the existing Animal Welfare Act to protect the lives and happiness of dogs around the country.

Fortunately, two of your colleagues, Senators Dick Durbin and David Vitter realize the grave urgency of the situation and have responded by introducing the PUPS (Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety) Act. I urge you to stand with animal lovers by:

1. Signing on as a co-sponsor of this important bill.
2. Talking to your colleagues in the Senate and urging them to support the PUPS Act.
3. Casting your vote on behalf of dog lovers in favor of this bill.
