There is no doubt that BPA is ubiquitous and there is increasing concern that it harms health. More than 200 studies have reported evidence that very low doses of BPA exposures are linked with a staggering number of health problems including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, prostate cancer and breast cancer, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders, lowered sperm count, and early-onset puberty. Just this month the Endocrine Society, the oldest and largest organization devoted to research on hormones and the clinical practice of endocrinology with over 14,000 members, has published a new statement about endocrine disrupting chemicals that concludes that Bisphenol A acting in minute quantities to disrupt the normal functioning of our hormones chemicals, represent a "significant concern for public health" and should be avoided.
As healthcare professionals, we believe the Congress should take a precautionary approach to BPA by preventing unnecessary human exposure. We support the passage of the Ban Poisonous Additives Act of 2009 (H.R. 1523 and S. 593), introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA) in March. This Act would ban BPA from food and beverage containers, taking an important step in protecting the health of the US population from a ubiquitous toxic chemical. In order to move forward, H.R. 1523 and S. 593 needs co-sponsors and supporters now.
Please tell your Member of Congress to protect our health by co-sponsoring the BPA Act of 2009.

Tell Congress: Remove toxic chemicals from food containers!
I pledge to...
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a hormone-disrupting chemical that is added to plastics during manufacture. It is in food containers, baby bottles, sippy cups, dental sealants, and a wide range of consumer products. It is one of the highest volume chemicals produced globally, and was found in the bodies of nearly 93% of Americans age 6 and up by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.</p>
