The April 11 presidential election in Sudan is a sham! It will legitimize the rule of an indicted war criminal, Omar al Bashir, disenfranchise millions of Sudanese, especially those from Darfur, and lead to the eventual disregard of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) when South Sudan votes to secede next year.
As you know, the sham elections in Sudan are over and Omar al-Bashir was re-elected as president. We're closing this petition, but hope you will continue to take actions to help Darfur and Sudan.
Please join us in telling Secretary Clinton and Ambassador Rice to step up for Sudan. It's online here, at change.org.
Thanks for your support.

Don't let the US legitimize the sham elections in Sudan
Greetings,
To assume that there will be free and fair elections in Sudan on April 11, 2010, would be a triumph of hope over reality. These elections will legitimize the rule of an indicted war criminal, Omar al Bashir, with the outcome, amongst other things, the eventual disregard of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) when South Sudan votes to secede one year later. Therefore, we urge President Obama and the Congress of the United States to:
•Strongly advocate the postponement of the election until such time as all benchmarks related to the electoral process, national reforms, security and humanitarian relief, as set forth in the Administration's October Sudan Policy, are fully met;
•Replace Gen. Scott Gration with a United States representative to Sudan who will take a less conciliatory approach toward Omar al Bashir and the National Congress Party (NCP). The situation demands a more experienced diplomat with an Office of the Envoy established in Sudan;
•Refrain from spending 100 million dollars on monitoring the April 11th election, and use those taxpayer dollars more advisedly to support South Sudan in its quest for freedom and peace. To that end, prepare voters for the many local the elections set to take place in April;
•Lead an international coalition of partners to stand with the United States as overseers of Sudan's full compliance with all terms of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005, including a firm commitment and support for the January 2011 referendum.
Sincerely,
