The "Rodenator" is an anti-prairie dog device used to explode burrows. The device has also been used on gophers, moles, rabbits, foxes, badgers and even coyotes.

A user first pumps propane gas into the burrow of the targeted animal. The propane sinks deep within the tunnel system of the burrow. The "Rodenator" then ignites the gas, violently exploding the burrow and anything living inside.

The Colorado Wildlife Commission approved the device in 2006. Now, residents are complaining about the inhumane device and want to see it banned.

Some residents have even seen prairie dogs on fire.

It's time this device is banned. Tell the Colorado Wildlife Commission to outlaw the "Rodenator."

Please Ban the Inhumane "Rodenator" Device

Greetings,

I am writing you to express my opposition of the approved anti-prairie dog explosive called the "Rodenator," and ask that you ban this destructive device.

Propane is first pumped into the burrows of small animals such as prairie dogs, moles, rabbits, voles and marmots. It has been reported that the device has also been used on larger animals including coyotes and foxes.

Once the propane sinks into the tunnel system of the burrow, the "Rodenator" ignites the gas, exploding the entire burrow and any animals living within. Users claim it is not used to kill the animals, but it is clear this is not the case.

Residents north of Boulder have witnessed the sight of prairie dogs on fire after the explosion of the burrow. This kind of death is inhumane and unnecessary.

Furthermore, the device is extremely loud and exceeds the legal sound limit. While it is not legal within cities such as Boulder, it is legal within the counties. Residents are disrupted every time the device is set off.

Please ban the use of this noisy and cruel device.
