Would you want your campus newspaper shaming rape and incest victims for getting an abortion?

The Human Life Alliance, an anti-choice Crisis Pregnancy Center, has been running "advertising supplements" in student papers that do exactly that, along with providing an astounding amount of inaccurate information.

The first lie appears in the Table of Contents, where it claims that "abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy for any reason."

Then it resorts to misinformation about the percentage of rape survivors who choose abortion; breast cancer scare tactics; inaccurate conflation of birth control with abortion; and gory, frightening, but completely false descriptions of various abortion procedures and side effects.

A number of campus papers have taken the right step in rejecting these "advertising supplements" that are nothing more than "12-page tasteless booklets of disinformation." Ads have been accepted at Stony Brook University, Marquette University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison, -River Falls, -Whitewater, -Eau Claire, -La Crosse, - Green Bay, and -Milwaukee.

Tell the editors of campus newspapers who have accepted these ads to insist on truth in advertising and stop running HLA ads that lie to and shame students.

Then click here to tell Congress to pass federal truth-in-advertising legislation and pull funding from deceptive Crisis Pregnancy Centers.

Reject Deceptive Human Life Alliance Advertising

Dear Editor,

It has come to my attention that your student newspaper is running or has this year included an advertising insert from the Human Life Alliance and may continue to do so in the future. I am concerned to hear this, as these inserts present inaccurate information and pose a danger to the health of college students.

In many of these supplements, the first lie appears in the Table of Contents, where it claims that "abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy for any reason."

Then it resorts to misinformation about the percentage of rape survivors who choose abortion calculated to shame victims; breast cancer scare tactics; inaccurate conflation of birth control with abortion; and gory, frightening, but false descriptions of various abortion procedures and side effects.

These aren't even advertisements: they're simply disseminating inaccurate information that lies to and shames women.

It is your responsibility to your readers to insist on truth in advertising, and reject these Human Life Alliance supplements for false, medically inaccurate information. Please join your peer newspapers who have taken a stand and refuse to run these inserts any longer by making a statement that any attempts by the Human Life Alliance to run their misleading ad insert in your paper will be rejected.
