Campbell's Soup has a 10-year contract with a food business in Holland, Michigan known as Request Foods, which helps package and distribute prepared food items. But Request Foods also works hard to keep civil rights away from gays and lesbians in their community.
Request Foods has taken out a full page advertisement in their hometown of Holland, Michigan, to try and defeat a local law that would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the town's nondiscrimination policy. In their ad, they accuse gay people of being psychologically disordered, suggest that people can spontaneously change their sexual orientation, and argue that gays and lesbians don't deserve civil rights because homosexuality is destructive to society.
Why would Campbell's Soup stand by a company like this? Send the company a message urging them to denounce the anti-gay political work of Request Foods. And while we're at it, urge Campbell's -- which has received plaudits for its marketing and concern for the LGBT community -- to come out in favor of the Holland, Michigan anti-discrimination law. It would be tragic if Request Foods and their work to demonize gays and lesbians continued to tarnish the reputation of a business like Campbell's.
Please condemn the anti-gay activities of Campbell's Soup partner Request Foods
Dear Campbell's,
Campbell's Soup currently has a contract with a Michigan-based company called Request Foods, which is a pre-packaged food company based out of the city of Holland. Unfortunately, Request Foods has also become an extremely political company, most recently taking a full page advertisement in a local newspaper that condemned the city's gay and lesbian population.
You can view the advertisement here: http://www.pridesource.com/article.html?article=42405.
Among many of the claims made by Request Foods in their advertisement are that: (1) gay and lesbian people are destructive to society; (2) gays and lesbians can change their sexual orientation; (3) gays and lesbians do not deserve nondiscrimination protections, (4) that gays and lesbians are psychologically disordered.
It troubles me greatly that Campbell's Soup, which has long had a commitment to diversity and markets to the gay and lesbian community, would consider this company a partner, especially since they are actively engaging in political work that seeks to hurt gays and lesbians.
I urge you to condemn the work of Request Foods, and to please show your corporate support for efforts in Holland, Michigan to combat discrimination against the city's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population. I would hate for Campbell's image to be tarnished by the aggressively anti-gay work of a partner like Request Foods.
Thank you for your time.
