On Wednesday, November 3rd, Fulton County commissioners will vote on an ordinance introduced by Commissioner Robert Pitts to ban the use of elephant bullhooks. If passed, the ordinance will lay the foundation for other cities to follow. Cruel circuses will no longer be legal in Atlanta.

Bullhooks are devices designed to force elephants to perform tricks by hooking and beating them until they obey. While the circus defends the use of such abuse stating that bullhooks are no different than using a leash for a dog, the bleeding wounds and bruises of the elephants tormented tell a much different story.

Support the Ban of Bullhooks

Greetings,

On November 3rd, please support the ban of elephant bullhooks in Atlanta. The use of bullhooks is inhumane and dangerous to elephants. Elephants are struck and hooked on the most sensitive parts of their bodies by bullhooks, all in the name of entertainment.

Bullhooks often create wounds and bruises. The device creates fear and torment within the wondrous animal. It is often used for punishment, forcing the elephant to submit. Trainers defend the use of the bullhook, stating that is no more dangerous than a mother's trunk. The wounds tell a different story; a story of unnecessary abuse.

No animal deserves to be beaten and abused. I am in favor of the ban of bullhooks. I hope that on November 3rd, you will vote for the ban.
