For the last five years, the Alliance Defense Fund and Exodus International have produced an anti-gay event in our nation's schools called "The Day of Truth." This divisive event is meant to counter "The Day of Silence" campaign, which aims to end anti-gay bullying in schools.
In response to the tragic barrage of gay suicides, Exodus International, the preeminent organization involved in the dangerous practices of so-called “ex-gay reparative therapy,” took a very important step by parting ways with The Day of Truth and placing its fate in the hands of the Alliance Defense Fund.
Right now, ADF is deciding whether to continue this controversial event or to end it. Lets help them make the right decision. Sign this petition to tell ADF that it is time to put our differences aside for the safety of our children. The Day of Truth needs to end.
The Day of Truth was started by the anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) after a California high school student wore a t-shirt to school on the Day of Silence that said “I Will Not Accept What God Has Condemned” on the front and “Homosexuality Is Shameful, Romans 1:27” on the back. He was asked to remove the shirt and the next day he wore another shirt saying "Be Ashamed. Our School Embraced What God Has Condemned."
The Day of Truth toned down its rhetoric, but the goal of the event is to target students who are perceived to be gay with the message that they can change their sexual orientation through Christ.
With your help, ADF will follow Exodus International’s lead and make the right decision for the safety of our young people.
Please Dissolve the Day of Truth
Dear Mr. Sears,
There is a bullying epidemic in our schools and it is time to put aside our differences and come together for the safety of our nation’s children. Exodus International took a bold step in parting ways from the Day of Truth and placing the event’s fate back in your hands. I respectfully urge you to follow their lead and dissolve this divisive and confrontational event.
It is a fact that there are many students experiencing same-sex attraction and although we may disagree about how those students should deal with this attraction, we should be able to agree that our schools have become unsafe places for students who are perceived to be different. These students are subjected to torturous bullying and are constantly made to feel like there is something wrong with them. An event that was founded on a t-shirt reading “Be Ashamed,” causes unnecessary division and it empowers students to feel they have license and backing to inflict feelings of isolation and shame on others.
In the wake of the recent barrage of tragic suicides across the nation, an announcement by the Alliance Defense Fund that the Day of Truth has been dissolved would be seen as respectful and admirable. It would also show that ADF is interested in creating safe environments for our nation’s young people.
I ask you to take this step as a fair-minded citizen, who is interested in doing everything that can be done to heal the pain of the afflicted. I hope you will consider my plea.
Thank you for your consideration,
