For too many of our children, attending school can be a frightening experience. As parents, families, friends, and allies we must make our schools safer by cultivating respect for all students, including our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) loved ones.  

Around the country, legislators are ignoring the facts: bullying is a problem we must ALL address. Just this week, legislators in Arizona chose not to vote on an anti-bullying policy that would have included teacher, parent, and student training in all schools across that state. At the same time, Kentucky’s House Education Committee rejected an anti-bullying bill despite emotional pleas from the parents and friends of teens who had committed self-harm. We need these legislators – and all legislators – to take a stand on  bullying. You did: by asking the MPAA to change the "R" rating for the must-see documentary BULLY, a potentially important tool in the fight to make schools safer, which won’t be accessible to the very kids who need it. 

We all have an important role to play in fighting bullying and harassment, but not everyone is willing to take up the cause.
