If I gave you $10,000, would you be more likely to answer the phone the next time I called? Would you maybe even feel like you owed me a favor?
Take big money out of politics!
It doesn't take a cynic or a conspiracy theorist to know that politicians are often unduly influenced by the corporations and special interests that bankroll their campaigns.
That's why we need to pass the Fair Elections Now Act and take big money out of politics.
This bipartisan legislation allows for voluntary public funding of congressional campaigns. It frees our elected officials to concentrate on what matters-the economy, health care, and energy-and to stop taking money that comes with strings attached.
Momentum is building to pass the Fair Elections Now Act, with an important hearing in the House this Thursday. So far, 71 representatives have signed on to sponsor the bill, but that means 364 need a nudge from their constituents to put voters first.
We've set up an easy-to-use page on our Web site where you can email your representative about this critical reform. If he or she has not yet signed on, ask your representative to support the Fair Elections Now Act. If your representative is already a co-sponsor, send a quick thank you.
It's time for an alternative to pay-to-play politics. Email your representative today!
Thank you for all you do!
