Support Eating Disorder Awareness Week

Support Eating Disorder Awareness Week

The Issue

Feb. 22 to 28 is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.

The goal of National Eating Disorder Awareness week is to prevent eating disorders and body image issues while reducing the stigma surrounding eating disorders and improving access to treatment.

Want to get involved? Visit the National Eating Disorder Association to find official events and the closest NEDA Walk.

But one of the best ways to show support is to embrace positive body image and healthy eating habits this week. Pledge to stay off the scale, to practice mindful eating and to treat your body with respect. Don't criticize the physical appearance of others. Remind your friends and family that they are beautiful. And don't forget to look in the mirror and affirm that yes, no matter how much you weigh or what size jeans you wear, you are beautiful too!

She studied creative writing and economics at Vanderbilt and has a master's in journalism from the University of Texas. She is also a graduate of The Ranch eating disorder treatment program. A recovering bulimic and anorexic, she primarily writes about body image issues and is especially interested in the relationship between eating disorders, pop culture and the media. She hopes to expand her writing at Change.org to include women's mental health. Speaking of insanity, she spends most of her free time keeping her quasi-psychotic dog entertained.
