Dear friends, Animals Australia reports: "This week marks one of the darkest times on the animal welfare calendar as the Festival of Sacrifice commences in the Middle East. Tragically, hundreds of thousands of exported Australian animals will be amongst the millions of animals who are sacrificed during religious celebrations at the end of the Hajj."

Honourable Minister,

I write to register my utmost opposition to Australia's live animal export trade. This untenable industry draws particular scrutiny at this time of year, as countless Australian animals are exiled to the Middle East to be brutally slaughtered in ritualistic Hajj massacres.

Australian sheep and cattle have been born into Australian care under the protection of Australian laws. It is an appalling abandonment of ethical responsibilities to then export these animals to countries where there are no laws to protect them and where they will be treated in a manner that would be illegal in Australia.

I respectfully beseech you to do everything in your power to permanently end Australia's live export trade.
