Great news! This week, the United States Senate unanimously passed the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act (PDF). It was a tough fight and opposition to the bill was only overcome after thousands of Americans from all 50 states called and e-mailed their senators.

SADA is a huge blow to the small group of foreign companies funding the ongoing genocide in Darfur.
Already, three companies have suspended their Sudan operations fearing that SADA will become law. To keep our elected officials engaged on the issue, it is important to call and thank your senators for supporting this important measure.

PLEASE THANK YOUR SENATORS FOR PASSING SADA.
It's important that, as the anti-genocide movement, we visibly support our elected officials when they stand up against genocide. We will also continue to need the Senate's help — after the House approves SADA, which it is expected to do overwhelmingly, the bill will go to President Bush. The president has been unsupportive of Sudan divestment in the past, and we will need both citizen and congressional pressure on him to sign the bill.

Please contact your senators today and thank them for their support!

Thank you for passing the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act!

Dear Senator,

Thank you for passing the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act this week. As you know, your action will help cut off the funding for the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

SADA is a huge blow to the small group of foreign companies funding the genocide. If and when the House of Representatives passes SADA, I am asking you for your support in asking President Bush to sign the bill into law. It is imperative that the United States not continue to allow its investments to fund mass atrocities — "never again" must not simply be a promise we make, but a commitment we keep.

Thank you again for passing the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act, and I hope I can count on you in the future for continued support on this issue.
