APNM and Project R&R have recently learned that the federal government plans to transfer more than 200 chimpanzees from their current home at Alamogordo Primate Facility to the Southwest National Primate Research Center in Texas, where they will undergo invasive research. Currently the Southwest research facility is being renovated using taxpayer dollars.
Please ask your Congressmembers - as well as New Mexico's federal congressmen - to halt this cruel and irresponsible transfer. For more information, please visit:

Please Halt the Transfer of APF's Treasured Chimps
Honorable Congressmembers,
I am heartsick to learn that the federal government plans to move more than 200 chimpanzees from the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) to the Southwest National Primate Research Center in Texas, where they will be subjected to torturous, invasive "research."
Numerous studies have documented the endless suffering chimpanzees endure in laboratories. Moreover, 30 years of chimpanzee "studies" have failed to provide breakthroughs in the prevention, treatment, or cures of human disease. The United States is the last developed nation still exploiting chimpanzees for research - a fact that is as shameful as it is mortifying.
Please, I urge you to do everything in your power to halt this transfer. These chimpanzees - who are so much a part of New Mexico's history - deserve far better than to be cruelly used as test subjects. Please act swiftly to ensure that APF's chimps remain safe at home.
Thank you kindly,
