Stop the Slaughter of Bears for Caps!
PETA is calling on Quentin Davies MP, Minister for Defence Equipment & Support, to stop using bear pelts to make headpieces for the five guard’s regiments and to have the hats fashioned from luxurious faux fur instead.
Bears killed for their hides are often shot during hunts, as many as one bear in seven is not killed immediately after being shot, and some escape wounded and die later from blood loss or starvation. In some Canadian provinces, there are no restrictions on the shooting of mothers who have nursing cubs, which leads to the slaughter of entire families during hunts when cubs are orphaned and left to die.
There is no excuse for the murder of bears for their skins. The MoD are dragging their heels and taking too long to do the right thing – ditch real bearskins and go faux. Watch the video that shows the true colours of the bear-skin industry then use our form below to send an e-mail to Quentin Davies, MP, the new minister in charge of procurement for the MoD.

Dear Quentin Davies, MP,
As the new procurement minister for the MoD, you are in a perfect position to take the final step to halt the use of real bearskins for the Queen's Guards' ceremonial caps. As you might be aware, it can take the entire hide of one bear to make just one cap.
The majority of the public supports switching to a faux-fur alternative, so please take the necessary steps to work with PETA to find an alternative to the unbearable cruelty of using real bearskins to make the Guards' caps.
