Stop the Pipeline to Pollution

Stop the Pipeline to Pollution

The Issue

"More than 30,000 activists joined the Sierra Club in supporting President Barack Obama's clean energy priorities before his first international trip to Canada...During the visit President Obama acknowledged that Canadian tar sands oil "creates a big carbon footprint" and committed to advancing clean energy policies and leading the world on global warming solutions.

But the oil companies aren't retreating, and neither can we. Oil companies are still trying to build a pipeline from Canada so they can sell us nearly one million barrels of their dirty fuel every day. We need stop them at the border - and the State Department can do exactly that.

Let Secretary of State Hillary Clinton know that you won't ignore pollution from the tar sands - and neither should she. Click here to tell the State Department that the tar sands pipeline is not in our national interest.

We know that getting oil from the tar sands produces three times as much pollution as conventional sources and destroys the livelihood of many of our neighbors to the north. Instead of importing expensive and dirty oil we can choose clean energy options that create millions of much-needed jobs here at home.

Tell the State Department to consider clean energy solutions that create jobs in the United States instead of permitting a pipeline to pollution. "

Carolyn TurnerPetition StarterIf I am not part of the solution, I am part of the problem. It's just that simple. When I am old and my son questions me about whether or not I did my part to make his world a more sustainable place for all species to survive, I need to know that I will be able to reply, "Yes, and aside from waiting until my 30's to have you, this is what I did..." So, I educated myself, planted 150+ trees, put up bluebird boxes, started growing some of our own food, and started putting my money where my mouth is. More powerful sometimes than our voice, is the impact we make by how we spend our money. I buy organic, all natural, and as local as possible. I compost, recycle, voice my opinion to my elected officials, boycott, educate, and learn. I actively seek information and new ideas for small lifestyle changes that I can make to further reduce my family's negative impact a little more every month.
