Why This Is Important

As one of 2 counties left in Michigan which allows Class B Dealers to remove animals from the county shelter, and sell them into research, it is vital to stop this practice, known as "pound seizure" in Mecosta County now. The main focus is to gather support from residents of this county, HOWEVER, I would also like to show how wide the disapproval of this practice is, so please show your support by signing this petition whether you are a member of the county or not.

Stop Pound Seizure in Mecosta County

Greetings,

I was deeply saddened to discover that lost and relinquished pets that found their way into Mecosta County Animal Shelter were being given to the Class B Dealer, known as D&M Research. It is a betrayal of the public's trust for a "shelter" to become a "warehouse" for these dealers. When an animal is taken or given to the shelter, it is expected all will be done to find a loving home for those pets, and in the worst case scenario, humanely put to rest. What is NOT expected of the shelter, is the giving of animals to a research dealer, where they will be tortured before finally being put to death. Let it also be noted that these dealers select pets with the most amiable personalities because they are easiest to work with, which if not for ending up in the hands of a dealer, those pets would be most adoptable.

I am writing to ask you to stop this practice, commonly referred to as "Pound Seizure" in Mecosta County, as you are one of only TWO left in Michigan which still allows this to go on. All other 81 counties, save for Gratiot, have realized the barbarism of this act and have ended it. Please be the next to open your eyes.


End the contract with D&M Research. Stop putting PETS into the wrong hands. And stop undermining the intentions and rights of Mecosta County Residents!
