As Iran continues to race toward a nuclear weapons capability, members of the House have introduced H.R.1327, the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act, which would back divestment efforts from companies investing in Iran's energy sector. It is vital for members of Congress to co-sponsor the bill and to speak out about the threat posed by a nuclear Iran and for the United States to take all economic, diplomatic and political steps to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.

You can affect Israel's future and promote America's interests in the Middle East by urging your Members of Congress to support these important initiatives.

Stop Iran's Nuclear ProgramUrge your House member to co-sponsor the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act (H.R. 1327) and to speak out forcefully on the House floor and other venues about the urgency of dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat. Stop Iran's Nuclear Program

Dear Representative

I am writing to ask you to cosponsor H.R. 1327, the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act, important legislation that would back divestment efforts from companies investing in Iran’s energy sector. I also urge you to speak out on the House floor and in other venues about the urgent need to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.

We are at a critical juncture in efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapons capability. Many experts believe Iran could have such a capability by the end of this year.

Were Iran to acquire a nuclear weapons capability, it would have devastating consequences for U.S. interests in the region and would severely set back efforts to secure an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement, support for moderate Arab regimes, non-proliferation efforts and the struggle against Islamic radicalism.

The United States should use all diplomatic, political and economic steps — including direct engagement backed by the threat of tougher sanctions — to persuade Iran to turn away from its dangerous course.

If Iran spurns U.S. efforts to engage and continues with its enrichment of uranium in defiance of three U.N. Security Council resolutions, the United States should increase sanctions on the regime.

Sanctions are having an impact on Iran. Just recently, Tehran announced that French oil company Total backed out of a major deal “because of sanctions against Iran.”

But there is more the United States can do. The United States has a wide array of sanctions available as a way to increase pressure on the regime to change course, including sanctioning Iran’s central bank, energy companies investing more than $20 million in Iran’s energy sector or insurance companies providing backing for Iran’s refined petroleum imports.

I respectfully urge you to cosponsor H.R. 1327 and to speak out about the dangers of a nuclear-armed Iran.
