Last summer, Palm Springs police arrested 24 men for "cruising," or seeking public sex. Now details have emerged that the officers had used homophobic slurs and tactics of entrapment. Even worse, the accused men may have to register as sex offenders for life under California law, something heterosexual couples accused of doing the same thing have never faced.

Urge the Palm Springs Police Chief David G. Dominguez to resign in light of his department's vicious anti-gay campaign, and let's stop homophobic police tactics! Gays need protection, not prejudice.

Despite being tasked with protecting one of the most gay cities in the United States, the Palm Springs Police Department has shown shocking animus towards gays. First, your department used of antigay slurs on-tape. Second, it used tactics to entrap and encourage accused gay men of committing worse crimes in undercover sting operations. Third, your department charged 24 gay men under a law that forces them to register as sex offenders, something heterosexual couples accused of doing the same thing have never faced.

Based on the severity and frequency of these overtly anti-gay police tactics, I urge your immediate resignation. Your reckless management of the Palm Springs Police Department has harmed LGBT people who disproportionately face violence.
