The Stupak-Pitts amendment in the House health care bill is a giant step backwards for women.
With women holding only 17% of Congress, we're at a clear disadvantage to fight this kind of attack on our reproductive health options.
But we do have a strong group of women Congress members who are standing up against this outrageous attack on women's health.
Tell Congress that you stand with these women - for women's health and against Stupak-Pitts - and ask them to do the same.
Stand with women, against Stupak-Pitts
Dear Decision Maker,
Women's reproductive health choices are not optional. Amendments like Stupak-Pitts have no place in comprehensive health care reform.
I stand with the women leaders who are speaking out against this outrageous restriction on women's health. I stand with Representative Diane DeGette, who, along with other House members, has declared that: "Health care reform must not be misused as an opportunity to restrict women’s access to reproductive health services…We will not vote for a conference report that contains language that restricts women’s right to choose any further than current law."
I also stand with Sen. Barbara Boxer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who know that these restrictions pose grave danger to women--and would be the biggest roll-back women's reproductive rights in decades.
Though women only hold 17% of Congress, they are over 50% of the population and deserve to have their health needs supported.
Women shouldn't be the only ones defending reproductive health. Though women lack equality in our government, their voices should still be represented.
I urge you to stand with these women leaders and oppose any measure that endangers women's health and restricts their reproductive choices and options.
