Spring Pond and the nearby wooded areas are not only an important peaceful, breathtaking retreat to enjoy nature, but they played the same significant role in history too... as noted by historic famous writers and poets.
We don't want a new Super Wal-Mart, Lowes and other developments destroying and replacing our environment and American Heritage. We don't want them blasting our hill tops, and ledges, changing the landscapes. We don't want them ruining the environment and we don't want them ruining our peaceful communities.
Our environment and limited places of retreat are irreplaceable.
These new developments will become a HISTORIC CRIME if these wooded areas and hills near Spring Pond are destroyed. Please be a voice in trying to conserve this significantly historical land which is important to this day.
There are several references found in many historic books which signify the historic and environmental importance of Spring Pond and these woods. The following are two links to the related research found regarding these areas:

Recognize and Conserve Historic woodland retreat by Spring Pond
Dear Members of the Historical Commission,
Dear Members of the Historical Commission,
I am writing you, to request the recognition of a historically significant pond and wooded area retreat, which is still visited and admired today as it was in historic times. The wooded areas and wetlands near Spring Pond, which are situated north of Highland Avenue, extending East of Spring Pond to Marlbourough Road, Salem, are at risk of being disturbed by the new developments and noise.
Please conserve this significant, historical land, which plays an important role to this day. Spring Pond and the wooded areas have a deep history where even famous historic writers retreated to this breathtaking, once famous retreat. Eminent visitors such as Increase and Cotton Mather retreated here in colonial times. The land was also once owned by the noble Crowningshield Family of Salem, who owned the land in Salem and Lynn. The land today is divided into that of Camp Lions in Salem, and the Fays Estate in Lynn.
There are several references found in many historic books which signify the historic and environmental importance of Spring Pond and these woods. There is a historic feeling, view and retreat we need to preserve. Please help recognize and preserve the history of the past and heritage, of this retreat by Spring Pond of Salem, before we loose this great gem of American heritage from our country land.
