Spartanburg County residents wanted a proclamation  from the county designating June 4, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) day.  

When organizers from Upstate Pride SC sent a request to Council Chairman Jim Horton for the proclamation he simply replied, "No."

Spartanburg County Council showed a total lack of respect, and it is time to change that. 

Tell the Spartanburg County Council to sign a proclamation declaring June 4, LGBT Day. 

Due to the overwhelming response in just 1 day to this petition I have upped the signature goal to 1250. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Greetings, Spartanburg County Council

This petition is in regard to the lack of respect shown towards LGBT people. All they wanted was one day of the year to recognize their humanity. LGBT people are your constituents, your neighbors, your friends, and your family.

Please show the LGBT community the respect they diserve by simply declaring June 4, 2011 "LGBT Day." No one will be harmed, but rather you will be showing a strong sign to Spartanburg County residents and the rest of the country that everyone is welcome. This is the kind of community I want to live in -- one where all families are welcome.

Please sign the proclamation immediately.
