As Roland Emmerich noted himself, not very many people are educated about what exactly happened at the Stonewall riots. To make this story about how some white, gay males started the LGBT rights movement would be unconscionable. Those who wish to tell the story about the Stonewall riots to a large audience have a duty both to that audience, and to those who participated in the riots, to tell the truth - that transgender people and LGBT people of color played a key role. Their inclusion was crucial to the movement, and their inclusion is crucial to the integrity of this film.
