The world's rain forests are being burned and bulldozed at a frightening rate! An expanse the size of 54 city blocks will be burned. As you read this 4,700 acres are burned every hour; affecting everything; Global Warming, agriculture and drinking water. 56% of our world's irreplaceable rain forest; Brazil's Pantanal Region, Mexico's El Ocote Forest Reserve and Costa Rica's Talamanca-Caribbean Biological Corridor have already been wiped out. Rain Forests exert a huge control over World Climate, including temperature, wind, and humidity. They even influence our own rainfall. A Major portion of today's medications have been discovered in the Rain Forest vegetation; for ailments from heart disease to leukemia and some possess some form of cancer-fighting properties. There are untold thousands more still to be evaluated! Rain Forests are home to more than 50% of our planet's plant and animal species. The loss among such species is skyrocketing as constant, massive burn-off squeeze them into ever less space. Right now over 685 varieties of birds, mammals and other wildlife occupy just four square miles of typical rain forest. The Gorilla, howler monkey, toucan, and red-eyed frog are just a few facing extinction. Many - if not most will clearly die unless we halt the senseless torching of their only habitat. Rescue of the remaining Rain Forest will yield major benefits-- clean pollution for our air, making water fit to drink, save topsoil from erosion and secure the banks of once-silted rivers and streams.
