The United States has issued stamps opposing alcoholism and support for breast cancer research, prostate cancer screening and sickle cell disease awareness. However, the U.S. is not among the 65 countries with an anti-smoking stamp. It is time that this country joins others from around the world and recognize importance of tackling the tobacco pandemic by issuing such stamps.
Anti-tobacco stamp for the 50th anniversary Surgeon General Luther Terry
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: U.S. Postal Service and the members of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC)
----------------
Please create an Anti-tobacco Stamp for the 50th anniversary Of the first Surgeon Generals Report "On Smoking and Health."
Nearly half a century after the Surgeon General’s first report on and titled "Smoking and Health," cigarettes still kill more Americans than AIDS, breast cancer, sickle cell disease, motor vehicle accidents, alcohol, illegal drugs, homicides, suicides, and fires combined.
A stamp commemorating this monumental report will be an important symbol to remind us all to help prevent the next generation from the needless suffering caused by tobacco use.

The American Medical Association adopted a resolution along with 22 state medical societies asking for a U.S. stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of the U.S. Surgeon’s General’s Report on Smoking and Health.
More the 20 million Americans have kicked the cigarette habit, resulting in a significant decline in heart attacks and slow but steady decrease in the incidence of lung cancer since the Surgeon’s General report was presented by Dr. Luther Terry in 1964.
We Urge you the U.S. Postal Service and the members of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) to commemorate Luther Terry and create the first Anti-tobacco stamp in the US history.
