The oceans are becoming more acidic every day.

Nearly a third of carbon dioxide emissions are absorbed by the oceans, raising the acidity level. The oceans have already become almost 30% more acidic than they were prior to the Industrial Revolution. This change in chemistry could be disastrous to marine ecosystems and the coastal economies they support.

Ask your Representatives to support a Congressional resolution to help stop ocean acidification - before it's too late »

As the oceans become more acidic, marine species, from corals to whales, will be pushed to their limits. At the same time, they are being threatened by other pressures: climate change, pollution, overharvesting, habitat destruction. Many of these threats will work together to weaken the resilience of marine life populations, making them less capable of dealing with the pressures of ocean acidification. We must act now.

An ocean weakened by acidification is bad news for coastal economies that depend on healthy marine ecosystems. More than 60% of Americans live in coastal states and coastal communities rely on ocean-based industries, like fishing and tourism. Ocean acidification threatens marine life around the world, but it also threatens the livelihoods of millions.

Support a Congressional resolution that calls for policies to study and address ocean acidification »

Help the oceans and contact your Representative today.

Thank you.
