In signing this pledge, we take an oath to report any sign of animal abuse or neglect that we may notice or hear about!

We shall report it to local police or sheriffs and also animal control agencies and then follow up on such a report urging that action be taken!!

One of the most heinous forms of animal abuse is animal fighting.
In my opinion it takes a mentally disturbed and sadistic person to take any part in, or find any amusement in an act like this!!

While the tell tale signs of cock fighting may be harder to detect, some of the signs of DOG FIGHTING may be noticed easier.

The American Pit Bull Terrier or (Stafford Shire Terrier if registered in the AKC as opposed to the UKC) is by far the dog most often used and abused in dog fighting. Anyone who knows anything about this breed knows that they are among the most loving, affectionate, loyal, and obedient breeds in the world.  In fact a few of their most outstanding and sought after characteristic's are 1) They are staunch defenders of children. 2) They are very loyal and affectionate to their human family's. 3) They are highly intelligent and easily trainable.

The list goes on and on but I will mention one more here because this one works against them in the hands of the wrong people.    THE BREED IS THE MOST TENACIOUS BAR NONE!    Hence the myth of the (Locking Jaw)  Any vet will tell you their jaw works no different than any other canine. However it is a lot more powerful and the dogs' will is a lot stronger than other dogs.  Combine these facts with the fact that pound for pound they are the strongest canine in the world and also stronger than most larger canines. It is then easy to see why they have been and still are used to fight more than any other breed.

IF YOU EVEN THINK that you may have noticed or heard of any signs of dog fighting PLEASE REPORT IT!!   Some signs may include things such as multiple bite wounds on the dog especially on the face head and neck.  2) Poorly cropped or unusually short cropped ears. 3) Docked tails--The breed standard in both UKC and AKC calls for unaltered tails. 4) Dogs that display excessive aggression--While dog to dog aggression is common in the breed if not properly socialized at an early age, over aggressiveness is not. And aggression toward people almost always has to be taught.

Other clues that you may want to report are things like seeing several of these dogs in separate crates in the back of a pickup truck or other vehicle. Suspicious looking people that sport these dogs on heavy chains, spiked collars or choke collars or just trying to make the dogs look mean and dangerous.

Again, this pledge is a promise to get involved and report any and all forms of animal abuse or neglect!
Aloha and God Bless,  Walt Vasco
