A bill to repeal the death penalty in Colorado has passed the state house and now goes to the state senate. Colorado state senators and Colorado Governor Bill Ritter need to know that there is wide and deep support for eliminating the death penalty. Savings from its elimination in Colorado will be used to fund the cold case unit of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. This petition will sent directly to State Senator John Morse, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
HB 1274
Dear Senator Morse

I urge you to support the HB 1274, also known as the Cold Case Bill, which was recently-passed by the Colorado House and now moves to the Senate. This is why I believe it is a bill that Colorado needs:

1. The death penalty does not deter murders. That has been shown by statistics.

2. We need to fund a cold case unit to solve some of the 1400 plus outstanding unsolved murders in Colorado, which will bring closure to the families of victims. They deserve this.
Thank you for supporting this important measure, which will save limited state resources and apply them in the pursuit of justice for the victims of unsolved crimes.
