After David was pulled over and arrested for driving without a valid license, he was taken into ICE custody and placed behind bars at an immigrant detention center in Georgia. Fearing that his brother would remain behind bars indefinitely, Cesar Zambrano started a petition asking ICE to release David before the holidays. 

After nearly 1200 signatures and countless phone calls, David has been released. With the support of their community and groups like Dream Activist, the Zambrano brothers have been reunited just in time for the holidays. 

URGENT: Please take immediate action so we can get David back home for the Holidays! David shouldn't have to spend this holiday season away from those he loves: Sign the petition and make a call urging ICE to release him immediately.

David was driving back home to Florida after dropping a friend off in Savannah, Georgia when he was stopped by a police officer. The officer saw that David was driving with a suspended license and arrested him. Instead of being released, ICE put a hold on him and David was transferred to Stewart Detention Center, where he has been for over a month. David is not a flight risk and should be released immediately.

Greetings,

I am writing to humbly request that you take immediate action to release DREAM Act-eligible student David Zambrano (A# 200278833) from Stewart Detention Center and stop his deportation.

David was born in Venezuela and was brought to the United States when he was only 13 years old. He has been living in Florida ever since and considers the U.S. his only home. Now 21, David finds himself detained and fighting his deportation to a country no longer knows and where he has no family.

David was driving back home to Florida after dropping a friend off in Savannah, Georgia when he was stopped by a police officer. The officer saw that David was driving with a suspended license and arrested him. As David arrived at the Glynn County Detention Center, the jail staff informed ICE that he did not have legal status in the United States. Instead of being released, ICE put a hold on him and David was transferred to Stewart Detention Center, where he has been for over a month. David is not a flight risk and should be released immediately.

Soon after David arrived in the U.S., he was admitted to high school as a freshman where he was able to learn English on his own. He graduated from high school in 2007 and continued with his education by attending college right after graduation. In December 2010, he graduated from college with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Management. David is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

David is an example to his family, friends, and community. He is a great student with a bright future ahead of him and should be allowed to stay in the U.S. to fulfill his American Dream. If David is deported, he will be separated from his family and will be sent to Venezuela, a country he hasn’t been to in eight years – all alone. Please help keep David in the country with his family and friends who love and support him.

David would qualify for the DREAM Act, a narrowly tailored bill that majorities in both the House and Senate voted to support this past December. Both President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano have stated that DREAM Act eligible youth are not a priority for deportation. In a recent announcement, Secretary Napolitano stated new guidelines for Prosecutorial Discretion. According to these guidelines, David is not deemed a priority for removal by DHS and merits a favorable exercise of discretion.

Unless David is released, he will have to spend the holidays in detention away from his family and friends who miss and love him. David is an honor student with a bright future ahead of him. He shouldn't have to spend this holiday season alone.

I urge you to release David Zambrano (A# 200278833) from Stewart Detention Center and stop his deportation.
