A recent news story of the rapist, paroled from prison, without adequate supervision who proceeded to rape and kill at least eleven women, hiding their bodies around his home is proof this legal system is failing women. Would they release man-killing lions within our society? Some serious consideration needs to be done concerning chemical castration of these so unfit to re-enter society. And men need to step up, and overcome their knee jerk reaction to this idea. It could be your daughter, wife, sister, mother next.
Women's Rights
Dear Decision Maker,
It is past time women are given equal rights under the law, which includes the right not to be victimized, raped and killed by men sentenced to prison for these crimes and then let back out of prison with inadequate supervision or, in short, any attempt at making sure this offender does not simply make a return to his past actions.
Violence against women is an evil that should not exist in such huge numbers in a so-called civilized society. As studies have shown, violence against women increases when economic circumstances put more pressure on men. I particularly fear the rise of such violence against women in the immediate future, because findings show that more men then women have lost jobs in our current economy.
And as for the recent news story, in which the rapist was paroled from prison, not supervised, and proceeded to rape and kill eleven women and hide their bodies about his home, such a thing should never be allowed to happen again. If our court system is going to fail women under current operating status, further preventatives need to be considered, up to and including chemical castration of these violent offenders. Women have borne the brunt of violent sexual crimes for far too long, and men, policy makers, and courts need to get past this knee jerk reaction that prevents a serious consideration of such a step.
Studies have shown this type of offender cannot be rehabilitated, and to release such people back into a society in which he has already acted in such a way to show himself to be unfit to be a member of is unfathomable.
Grass roots movements, such as "Take Back the Night" are having no effect in our society, women remain prey of certain elements. And we need the courts, and all men of good will to come to the aid of women, and implement NEW programs to protect us.
I call upon our President to lead the way in this endeavor. I call upon Congress, so willing to label themselves Christians and men of "family values" to appoint a commission to study this problem and come up with some solutions. And I call upon our Judicial system, to start considering the harsher penalties such crimes against womankind as such acts warrant. This nation can never be considered civilized, nor does our government have the right to assert any "equal justice for all" when women are so often the victims of such sordid, violent behavior as such men commit.
I would also like to suggest, that perhaps legislation dealing with pornography, and in particular, the "slash" pornography in which for the sexual gratification of men, women are brutalized and murdered, be considered and implemented. Should not our legislative branch, so filled with men of "family values" declare a "no tolerance" policy of such behaviors? Should not our legal system consider whether punishments meted out to these offenders be appropriate to these antisocial acts. The pornographic industry is growing at a swift pace, as is violence, and in particular, sexual violence against women, growing in tandem with it.
It is no longer the time for a call to "Take Back the Night" but time for a call to "Take Back Our World", for women everywhere, and the United States should lead the way in ensuring women the full right, "to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Women should not be forced or expected to live out their lives as "prey". We DEMAND full protection under the law.
