Why This Is Important

Hello supporters, 
I am starting a email campaign directed towards the government of the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. We will be making a plea on behalf of our partner organization, The Himalayan Nature Society, to put a stop to the mass killing of street dogs and ask the government for their assistance in moving toward building a sustained, healthy population of dogs for the state.

Assistance requested for ABC program

Dear Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal,

I am writing to thank you for recently offering the assistance of one of your government vets to the Himalayan Nature Society's ABC (spay/neuter/vaccinate) program; your generous support is much appreciated.  I am also writing in hopes of enlisting your further support in persuading your government to put an end to the mass killings of street dogs in your state. 

As I am sure you are aware, rabies kills approximately 20,000 to 40,0000 people each year; this is a tragedy that can be prevented. Studies have shown that the mass-killing of strays' approach that is currently employed, only brings in a new population that will most likely carry disease, including rabies. In addition the mass-killing approach does not abide by the animal welfare laws of India, and the principles set forth by theAnimal Welfare Board of India. Studies have also shown that the most effective and humane way of managing this issue, is to have the contained population of dogs spay/neutered and vaccinated.  This approach also prevents new cases of rabies from developing and will have the added benefit of establishing a systematization and identification program.
I want to reiterate how much your current support is appreciated.  Anything you can do to enhance funding for the ABC program--since this is only effective way to reduce and eliminate the danger of rabies to humans – will be of tremendous support to your community.
