Pursue Maximum Charges for Thousands of Neglected Chickens

Pursue Maximum Charges for Thousands of Neglected Chickens

The Issue

Last week, Connecticut officials euthanized over 2,500 chickens and two ducks seized from Tang Quan "Jason" Lin. Officials found numerous dead animals; the living birds were sick, living in squalor and had apparently not been given food or water in days. He was planning to sell them at an Asian live bird market in Boston.

Lin, who is from Massachusetts, has been arrested two times in the last three years for animal cruelty. The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized 719 chickens and 303 ducks from his Massachusetts farm a few years ago. They also found about 100 dead birds among the live ones. The Massachusetts court let Lin off "without a finding," a ruling similar to probation.

In 2007, Lin was also cited for housing chickens and ducks in his house without a permit. He supposedly got rid of them, but a follow-up inspection found several hundred baby chicks.

Lin has repeatedly shown that he has no concern for the welfare of his animals and that he will continue to mistreat birds. Ask the State's Attorney to pursue the maximum charges against Lin to stop the cycle of cruelty.
