A $2 billion combined shift of funding away from K-12 schools imperils a public education system already held together with a patchwork of cross-subsidies, grants, and tentative revenue streams. As with many policy issues, the results here will further stress front-line workers and create unacceptable learning conditions for children.
Minnesota cannot continue to fix structural budget issues by raiding the reserves of school districts.
Stop using K-12 schools as Payday Loans
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Governor Mark Dayton and Minnesota Legislative Leaders.
----------------
Pay public schools on time for the services they provide!
The current budget deal virtually ensures that two years from now Minnesota will be in worse economic shape. Yet, the state will owe public schools over $2 billion. This imperils a public education system already held together with a patchwork of cross-subsidies, grants, and tentative revenue streams. Borrowing from school districts that have had the discipline to create reserves is an unfair way for the state to solve budget problems.
As with many policy issues, the results here will further stress teachers on front-lines and create unacceptable learning conditions for children.
Minnesota cannot continue to fix structural budget issues by raiding the reserves of public school districts.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
