If you or your child are walking, biking or crossing the street and are hit by a negligent driver In Mississippi, chances are the driver of the car will be charged with little more than a small fine, EVEN IF they cause death or serious injury.  

Bike Walk Mississippi wants to let our public officials to know that we want this to change!  If you are a runner who uses the road, a student crossing the street for class, a road worker, a law enforcement officer issuing tickets on the side of the road, a motorcyclist, a bicyclist by choice or by need, a farm equipment operator, equestrian, parent or know anyone who is; we are asking you to show your support for the rights of these vulnerable users by adding your name to this petition.

If a tragedy ever happens to you or a loved one on the road, you will want to make sure stronger penalties in the case of negligent drivers exist. A person who is criminally negligent is not driving as a reasonable person and should realize his/her driving could cause a risk of injury or death, such as: excessive speeding, running red lights or stop signs, violating crosswalk rules, dangerous passing or distracted driving; this is a choice on his/her part. We all use the roads in some way or another, we all deserve to be safe and we are all pedestrians!
