Every minute of every day, we are losing our farm and ranch land to sprawling development! Once the land is gone, it can’t be brought back and the ripple effect is tremendous.

Farms provide fresh local food for Americans, wildlife habitat, a boon to local economies and our best solutions to address major environmental challenges like climate change and water quality.

Interest in farm and food issues in America is skyrocketing, but there is one piece missing in most of these debates: If farmers are to provide fresh, affordable and safe food for America, we must save our disappearing farm and ranch land.

Do not stand by as the loss of farmland in this country takes away the food, environmental benefits and economic security given to us by farms. Tell your representatives in Congress to protect our farm and ranch land before it is too late!

Please protect our farm and ranch land

Dear Legislator,

Our farm and ranch land urgently needs our committed stewardship! Together, we can save millions of acres of the land that sustains us. We can work with farmers and ranchers to address major environmental challenges like climate change and water quality. And we can help the nation’s farmers meet the growing demand for local food while supporting a new green economy.

But to do this, every community in the nation must recognize that their farmland is irreplaceable and make farm and ranch land conservation a public priority -- an item on every state's agenda and a key element of national farm policy.

Did you know that farms closest to metropolitan areas (and under the highest risk of development) produce 91 percent of the nation’s fruit, 78 percent of vegetables and 67 percent of our dairy products? In fact, we need another 13 million acres of fruits and vegetables just for Americans to meet the MINIMUM daily requirement of fruits and vegetables set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That means we are already short on productive farmland—and we’re losing more and more each day!

As a citizen concerned with our nation’s security, economy, environmental and personal health, I urge you to support farmland protection efforts in your home state as well as on the federal level. Our future and our children’s future depend on it.
