After the most secretive and deceptive administration perhaps in history, protecting journalists who reveal government abuses has never been more important. Our democracy simply does not work if the government is not held accountable.

Confidential sources have revealed critical information about Iraq War intelligence, torture at Abu Ghraib, secret CIA prisons, suspicious government contracts, illegal wiretapping, doctored science reports, and the list goes on and on. If the press cannot protect its sources then the government will be able to get away with even more.

The House has just passed Media Shield legislation but the issue has not yet been considered by the full Senate. The White House has threatened to veto it.

Urge your senators and President Bush to support the Media Shield. Freedom of the press depends on it.
