With war costs, military and civilian deaths mounting, Afghan, U.K. and U.N. officials know it's past time to end the war in Afghanistan. Yet President Obama commits more and more troops and resources to this war even as our national debt is exploding, while more and more Americans are realizing it's time to withdraw responsibly. That's why we support new legislation to bring an end to the war with a responsible exit strategy.

Senator Russ Fiengold, Representative Jim McGovern, and Representative Walter Jones have bravely brought this legislation to the floor. It will "require the President to develop a flexible timetable to draw down U.S. troops from Afghanistan." Withdraw Responsibly from Afghanistan, Pass H.R. 5015 and S. 3197

Esteemed Member of Congress,

Senator Russ Fiengold, Representative Jim McGovern, and Representative Walter Jones have brought legislation to withdraw responsibly from Afghanistan to the floor. Doing so is imperative because of the mounting costs of the war in the face of our growing national debt, and the needless risking of our soldiers lives when Afghan and U.N. Counter-Terrorism officials have made clear the only viable solution is a political one.

The legislation will "require the President to develop a flexible timetable to draw down U.S. troops from Afghanistan." H.R. 5015: Redeployment of U.S. Troops from Afghanistan, and it's sister bill in the Senate, S. 3197, are critical first steps for the U.S. withdrawal effort.
